Finance Director
Pulaski County is seeking to fill a full-time Director of Finance position. The Director of Finance is responsible for oversight of all county financial functions including the Board of Supervisors, Public Service Authority, Economic Development Authority, Sports Tourism and Entertainment Authority and the Department of Social Services. This individual works with the Treasurer, Commissioner of Revenue, School Board, staff, Compensation Board and various state and federal agencies to manage the financial, personnel and risk management aspects of County operations. The position requires complex professional work preparing and performing analyses, projections and review of all financial activities. These functions include monitoring and reviewing all departmental budgets in accordance with County Administrator and various Board’s direction and ensuring the County meets all required standards of accounting. The is position ensures accurate financial reporting, the oversight of internal funds, preparing reports, supporting audits, managing procurement and banking relationships, collaborating on long-term financial planning, and maintaining county insurance programs. This position also requires complex professional work preparing and performing analysis, projections and review of all financial activities. The role also involves staff training and ensuring compliance with governmental financial standards. This position supervises the Assistant Finance Director, Finance Accountants, County Payroll Supervisor, Accounts Payable/General Billing Clerk and reports to the County Administrator.
Work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Some overtime, holiday and evening work may be required as well as overnight travel. The salary scale for this position is $92,107 - $157,343 and is commensurate upon education and experience.
Educational Requirements: Applicant must possess a required Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, a Master’s Degree and CPA is preferred, a minimum of 4-6 years of extensive experience required in municipal finance with 7-10 years preferred. Applicant must also be highly proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, knowledge of Tyler/Munis Software is preferred, possess extensive experience in personnel procedures and insurance functions, and have experience supervising, selecting, training, and developing Finance Department staff.

Fire Marshall
The Pulaski County Fire and Rescue Department is seeking to fill a full-time Fire Marshal position. The anticipated hire date for this position is January 2nd or after. This position involves conducting fire and life safety inspections of new and existing commercial establishments as well as multi-family residences, the operation of fire protection equipment, ensuring compliance with county and state fire codes, investigating complaints of fire safety hazards, compiling data, reviewing and performing technical inspections of fire detection and suppression systems for conformance with County fire codes and state building codes, inspects construction work and provides final fire related approval, conducts investigations of fires, explosive/bomb incidents and hazardous materials incidents which includes but is not limited to; collecting physical evidence, sketching fire scenes, interrogation of witnesses or suspects and preparing documentation of all investigative action for presentation in criminal or civil court, as necessary.
Work hours are variable and scheduled as needed based on the County's requirements and emergency situations. Some overtime, evening work, holiday and overnight travel may be required. The salary range for this positon is $65,000- $85,000 and is commensurate upon education and experience.
Educational Requirements: A high school diploma or GED is required. A degree in the fire service field or business management is preferred. The position also seeks an applicant that possesses 10 years’ experience in Fire/EMS with progressively increasing responsibility, including 3 years supervisory/managerial experience, or any combination of experience and training that includes a working knowledge of the Statewide Fire Prevention Code, NFPA, fire suppression techniques and tactics, public education, and the Building Code. Also, a thorough knowledge of local, state, and federal resources and regulations, including those from Virginia Department of Emergency Management, Virginia Department of Fire Programs, Virginia Department of Forestry, and the State Fire Marshal’s Office, and certification as a VA EMT Basic or National Registry-Basic. Virginia Fire Inspector I & II (NFPA 1031), Virginia Fire Investigator (NFPA 1033), Virginia Department of Housing and Basic Community Development CORE Module.
Additionally, the applicant must obtain certification as a Fire Official within 12 months from date of hire in accordance with Virginia Certification Standards (13VAC5-21) as well as obtain certification as a Fire Protection Plans Examiner and Fire Prevention Inspector within 3 years of hire date, Virginia Department of Fire Programs (VDFP) Certifications including or exceeding: Firefighter II, EVOC III, Hazardous Materials – Operations, Fire Officer I, FEMA-NIMS Certifications (ICS-100, ICS-200, ICS-300, ICS-700, ICS-800)

Training Officer - Fire & Rescue
The Pulaski County Fire & Rescue Department is seeking to fill a full-time Training Officer position. The anticipated hire date of this position is January 2nd or after. This position develops, implements and maintains all training programs for staff and volunteers, assists with training records management, purchases and maintains training equipment, coordinates all activities associated with the department’s training center, oversees training and certification of new personnel, existing personnel and upon changes in certification levels, coordinates and conducts initial courses and continuing education programs as needed to meet agency and community needs, supports any fire training initiatives at Pulaski County High School or New River Community College. The Training Officer may be asked to assist the Fire Chief with day to day operations of the department. This may include budgeting for training, field operations and response, as well as other administrative work as assigned. This positon reports to the Fire Chief.
Work hours are Monday through Friday office hours, with some evening and weekend work required. Some overtime and overnight travel may be necessary. The salary scale for this position is $55,000 – $78,900 and is commensurate with education and experience.

Fire Instructor II, Fire Officer I, Firefighter II, EVOC III, Hazardous Materials – Operations, FEMA-NIMS Certifications (ICS-100, ICS-200, ICS-300, ICS-700, ICS-800, Certification by the Virginia Office of EMS, as an EMT-B or higher, extensive experience developing and conducting training and certification programs, experience working with local and regional training entities, experience in HR matters and standard practices, knowledge of Public Sector budgeting, procurement, and purchasing, and the ability to establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships with subordinates, peers, government officials, volunteer fire departments, and the general public.

General Services Technician II
Pulaski County is seeking to fill a full-time General Services Technician II position. The anticipated hire date is January 2, 2026 or after. This position performs general maintenance repairs on buildings such as painting, plumbing, carpentry, and electrical, includes repairs to walls, roofs, floors, etc. Performs routine and emergency repairs and service requests, ensures the safety and functionality of utilities and equipment while following safety regulations, maintains cleanliness and safety of public spaces and buildings as well as the operation and maintenance of equipment and vehicles. Position also assists in snow removal, mechanical system maintenance and record-keeping. Physical presence on the job is required as essential functions and responsibilities are not suited to remote work.
This position reports to General Services Crew Leader.
Work hours are Monday thru Friday, 7:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Some overtime and evening work may be required. The salary scale for this position is $29,120 - $52,980 and is commensurate upon education and experience.
Educational Requirements: Applicant must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Thorough knowledge of common and power tools used in building and equipment maintenance work, thorough knowledge of carpentry trades, general knowledge of plumbing and electrical trades, the ability to work from sketches, drawings, and blueprints, the ability to maintain records, logs, and proper reports as well as extensive experience in skilled building maintenance work is required.

Assistant Chief of EMS Operations
The Pulaski County Public Safety Department is seeking to fill a full-time Assistant Chief of EMS - Operations (AC 9-1) position. As a key member of the Pulaski County Public Safety Department, the Assistant Chief of EMS plays a critical role in overseeing the daily operations of the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) department. This position supervises Field Captains, Lieutenants, Field staff manages agency operations and reports to the Chief of EMS.
Important Note: Please be advised that the anticipated start date for this position is January 1, 2026.
Work hours are primarily weekdays, but occasionally include nights, weekends, holidays, and Special Events. The starting salary for this position is $80,000+ and is commensurate upon education and experience.
Educational Requirements: The ideal candidate will possess a strong educational and experiential background, including certification as a paramedic by the Virginia Office of EMS and certification in ICS 100, 200, 300, 700, and 800. Current or previous experience as a Virginia Education Coordinator is preferred, as is current or previous instructor certifications in EMS courses. A minimum of an Associate's degree in a related field or extensive comparable experience is required, with a Bachelor's degree preferred. Additionally, a minimum of eight (8) years of supervisory experience is required, with grant writing experience being a desirable asset. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and other applications, is also required.

Emergency Medical Services – Field Staff
The Pulaski County Public Safety Department is hiring full-time Emergency Medical Technicians, Advanced EMT's, and Paramedics.
Minimum qualifications include EMT, AEMT, or Paramedic Certification, and completion of a state approved EVOC course. Applicants must be insurable under the Existing County of Pulaski vehicle policy, which currently requires a minimum age of 18 and 1.5 years of driving experience with an acceptable driving record. A background screening and drug and alcohol test is also required.
Full-time staff work 48 hours per week with variable shifts including 24-hour shifts as needed. Salary is commensurate upon education, training and experience. A full benefit package, which includes health, dental, vision, life insurance, VRS retirement, optional 457b retirement plan, paid sick, vacation and holidays are included in this position. A $1,500 recruitment bonus (paid upon successful completion of a precepting program and orientation period) is also included. The employer covers uniform and training expenses.

Deputy Sheriff
The Pulaski County Sheriff's Department is hiring for a Deputy Sheriff position. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age and possess a valid Virginia driver’s license. Preference will be given to applicants with State Law Enforcement Certification and two years of college credits; however, selected non-certified LEO applicants will begin the academy at a later scheduled time. An extensive background investigation and medical examination is required. Applicants must have 20/20 corrected vision and have proportionate height and weight.
The anticipated salary for non-certified applicants is $50,500 based upon successful completion of the NRV Criminal Justice Training Academy and field training. Tenured LEOs may receive additional pay based upon experience and years of service ranging from $51,500 - $61,900.
