Assistant Finance Director

The County of Pulaski is seeking to fill a full-time Assistant Finance Director position. This position is responsible for assisting the Finance Director in overseeing all county financial functions, including those related to the Board of Supervisors, Public Service Authority (PSA), Economic Development Authority (EDA), Sports Tourism & Entertainment Authority (STEA), and the Department of Social Services (DSS), hereafter referred to as "the County." This individual will work with the Treasurer, Commissioner of Revenue, School Board, staff, and various state and federal agencies to manage the financial aspects of County operations. The position will provide extensive support regarding the budgeting and financial operations of the PSA. This role supervises the PSA Collections Specialist and PSA Billing Office Supervisor, and reports to the Finance Director.

Work hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Some overtime, holiday, and evening work may be required, as well as overnight travel. The salary scale for this position is $73,632 - $123,170 and is commensurate upon education and experience.

Educational Requirements: Applicants must possess a minimum of four (4) years of extensive, progressively responsible experience in a municipal financial administrative position. A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance is required. The qualified individual must be knowledgeable about the laws and policies governing municipal finance, budgeting, accounting techniques, GAAP and GASB methods and procedures, municipal bonds, contracts, and investment opportunities.

Building Inspector

The Pulaski County Building Department is seeking to fill a full-time Building Inspector position. This position involves performing technical inspections during site preparation and construction to ensure compliance with building, plumbing, and electrical codes, as well as zoning ordinances. The successful candidate will engage with architects, engineers, and citizens, providing guidance on construction plans and addressing complaints while maintaining accurate records and reports. This position reports to the Building Official.

Important Note: Please be advised that the starting date for this position will be July 1, 2025.

Educational Requirements: Applicants must possess a high school diploma (or equivalent), supplemented by training in building and construction plan reading, architectural technology, or engineering technology. A minimum of three years of experience in construction, maintenance, public works, or code enforcement is required, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office and permitting software. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to interpret codes and ordinances and work effectively within a team environment. Preferred qualifications include an Associate’s Degree, certification in at least one inspection area defined by Virginia DHCD, a contractor’s license or tradesman license, and a minimum of five years of building construction experience.

Community Health Internship

The Pulaski County Office of Prevention and Recovery is seeking to fill a Community Health Internship position. This position will support the goal of strengthening community partnerships through the creation of a resource quick guide. The role includes assisting with community outreach, data collection, engagement, and program implementation. This position reports to Director.

Work hours are up to 80 hours maximum with work schedule approved by the Director. Some overtime and evening work may be required. This opportunity is available as an unpaid internship, providing valuable experience in human services, community health, law enforcement or a related field.

Library Youth Services Assistant – Part Time

The Pulaski County Library is seeking to fill a part-time Youth Services Assistant position. The primary duties of this role include providing library services to preschoolers, school-aged children, and young adults (teens). Responsibilities may include facilitating preschool story times, organizing programs and activities for youth, and coordinating the Summer Reading Program. The Youth Services Assistant will work closely with the Youth Services Librarian to deliver services to the community's youth and will also be responsible for some library circulation duties. This position reports to the Youth Services Coordinator.

Work hours are approximately 25 hours per week, typically Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, but may be adjusted upon request. Some evening work and occasional overnight travel may be required. The hourly rate for this position ranges from $16 to $21, commensurate with education and experience.

Educational Requirements: Applicants must possess at least an Associate Degree; a Bachelor’s Degree is preferred. Library experience or work experience with children, parents, schools, and daycare centers, as well as knowledge of children’s literature, is preferred.

Randolph Park Seasonal Positions

The Pulaski County Parks and Recreation Department is seeking to fill the following part-time seasonal positions:

  • Lifeguard

    This position is responsible for ensuring patrons adhere to all rules and regulations of the water park facility while providing necessary lifesaving duties of CPR and first aid in emergency situations. Work hours are up to Forty (40) hours per week during the pool season of May through early September. Some overtime and evening work may be required. Applicant must be enrolled in school, be at least 15 years of age and certified in first aid, CPR and lifeguarding, employer provides certifications upon hire. Previous experience in an aquatic setting is preferred. The starting pay for this position is $16 per hour and is commensurate upon education and experience.

Wildfire Mitigation Module Member

Applications are being accepted for the position of a part-time Wildfire Mitigation Module Member. This position will carry out hazard fuel reduction projects through thinning, brush disposal and prescribed burning; participates in and presents public education programs; may respond to wildfire assignments as part of an organized crew; participates in training activities, station and equipment maintenance and performs other support and related duties. Emergency Medical Services – Field Staff

The Pulaski County Public Safety Department is hiring full-time Emergency Medical Technicians, Advanced EMT's, and Paramedics.

Minimum qualifications include EMT, AEMT, or Paramedic Certification, and completion of a state approved EVOC course. Applicants must be insurable under the Existing County of Pulaski vehicle policy, which currently requires a minimum age of 18 and 1.5 years of driving experience with an acceptable driving record. A background screening and drug and alcohol test is also required.

Full-time staff work 48 hours per week with variable shifts including 24-hour shifts as needed. Salary is commensurate upon education, training and experience. A full benefit package, which includes health, dental, vision, life insurance, VRS retirement, optional 457b retirement plan, paid sick, vacation and holidays are included in this position. A $1,500 recruitment bonus (paid upon successful completion of a precepting program and orientation period) is also included. The employer covers uniform and training expenses.

Deputy Sheriff

The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department is hiring for a Deputy Sheriff position. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age and must possess a valid Virginia driver’s license. Prefer applicants with State Law Enforcement Certification and two years of college credits; however, selected non-certified LEO applicants will begin the academy in July 2024. Extensive background investigation and medical examination is required. Applicants must have 20/20 corrected vision and have proportionate height and weight. Preference will be given to applicants who are a resident of Pulaski County.

The anticipated salary for non-certified applicants is $49,000 based upon successful completion of the NRV Criminal Justice Training Academy and field training. Tenured LEO’s would receive additional pay based upon experience and years of service ranging from $52,000 - $60,000.
