Job Description

Salary Range $70,401 to $105,601.  Assists with all County functions including Public Service Authority operations, coordination of human services, team building, regional efforts and strategic planning.  Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree and progressive supervisory responsibility required.

Library Youth Services Assistant/Clerk
Job Description

The Pulaski Library is seeking to fill one (1) permanent part-time position whose primary duties include planning and presenting preschool story times at local daycare and preschool centers as well as at the public libraries; planning programs for teens; assisting with the library Summer Reading Program; and maintaining library materials.  Must possess a high school diploma, good written and communication skills, and computer experience.  College degree and/or library experience preferred.

This position is for 15 hours per week and will primarily work mornings Monday through Friday.  The starting wage is $9.00 per hour.

Convenience Center Attendant
Job Description

The Pulaski County PSA is hiring for a part-time convenience center attendant (29 hours per week) to staff one of the PSA’s solid waste drop site locations.  This position directs and assists citizens in disposing of household trash, recyclables, metals, appliances, paper products, glass, plastics, tires, brush, and other items.  Ensures that waste is in the proper containers and the drop site grounds free from trash and debris.  Must be able to carry up to 75 pounds and stoop, bend, or stand for extended periods of time and be available on weekends.

Beginning wage is $8.00 per hour.  Requires a high school diploma or GED and pass a criminal background check and drug test.

Telecommunications/Switch Engineer
Job Description

Pulaski County is accepting applications for a Telecommunications/Switch Engineer with the Information Technology Dept.  Applicants must have an Associate’s Degree (Bachelor’s preferred) with additional specialized training equivalent to CCNA, CNA, MCSE and demonstrated ability to perform assigned technical/engineering tasks, with five or more years’ experience.

Applicant must be proficient in designing and installing network software, servers, and switches, maintaining networks, updating network software, resolving software/hardware conflicts, and backing up servers. Knowledge of Cisco switches and software will be a strong plus. Willingness to deal with changing expectations, shifting priorities and new technologies.  Experience with troubleshooting optical and analog circuit problems, analog and digital phone sets, and an ability to administer telephone software features. Experience in administering converged voice/data networks. Experience with backup, recovery, planning, and security procedures also a plus. Demonstrates initiative, commitment, and flexibility to work unpredictable hours as necessary. Proven success in working effectively in a team environment without direct supervision.

Beginning salary range is $33,864 - $50,796 depending on qualifications. This is a full time position with benefits:  health, dental, life, optional vision insurance, supplemental life, state retirement program, optional 457 retirement program, sick and vacation leave, paid holidays, and much more.

Part Time Line Services Technician
New River Valley Airport

The New River Valley Airport in Dublin is seeking an individual for a part time line service technician position with the primary responsibilities of refueling aircraft, towing aircraft into and out of hangars, marshalling aircraft to designated parking spaces, processing sales, and responding to customer needs.  Must have excellent verbal communication skills, license to operate a vehicle in the state of Virginia, must be over the age of 18 and able to lift 50-pounds, and safely perform the tasks of aircraft refueling and towing.    Prefer aircraft refueling or equipment operational experience (such as a forklift, tractor, etc).  Excellent customer service, ability to work independently and dependability a must.

Wages:  $7.50 per hour.  This is a part time position with approximately 20 hours per week on Saturday and Sunday.  Scheduled work hours would be Saturday and Sunday 8:00am – 6:00pm.

Animal Care Specialist

Public Safety Dispatcher
Job Description

County of Pulaski, Virginia, salary range:  $22,920 – $34,381 (anticipated hiring range $27,500 - $32,000). Pulaski County is located in Southwestern Virginia in the heart of the New River Valley. Pulaski County is home to a number of regional facilities and several outstanding attractions. Pulaski County includes the Towns of Dublin and Pulaski and a total population of approximately 35,000 citizens. Examples of Duties: Under general supervision, receives and dispatches emergency (911) calls for police, fire and emergency medical service; enters data into personal computer while questioning callers for information; determines nature, validity and disposition of calls; utilizes computer generated messages and priorities to dispatch field units to emergency situations; operates a variety of communications equipment including radio transmitters, accessories and telephones; performs call reception and dispatch activities utilizing computer-assisted dispatch system; answers or refers inquiries and complaints regarding a wide variety of public safety and related matters; accesses, retrieves, and transmits vehicular or personal information to field units; relays relevant situational information to non-city enforcement or public safety agencies; may provide training for dispatchers and participate in evaluation of their performance; may act in a variety of dispatch supervisory positions; handles sensitive information that must be held with the upmost confidentiality; performs other related duties as required.

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. MUST BE WILLING TO WORK: Any shift assignment including mandatory holidays, weekends and overtime (Public Safety Dispatchers work a 12-hour shift in the Joint Communications Center).
  2. MUST BE ABLE TO: Handle a high volume of emergency calls with tact, good judgment, initiative and speed; question callers while simultaneously typing information into a computer terminal (multi-tasking); speak clearly and understandably; comprehend, interpret and retain written and orally presented information effectively i.e., read, memorize, interpret and apply policies and procedures, State Penal Code, FCC regulations, charts and maps.
  3. Ability to demonstrate keyboarding skills at 35 wpm.
  4. Ability to pass a thorough background investigation which will cover information regarding relatives, references, acquaintances, educational background, residential history, employment history, criminal history, military service records, financial status, legal history, drug use and related areas.
  5. Must not have any felony convictions (you must not have been convicted of any crime punishable by imprisonment in a penitentiary).

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience or training as an emergency communications officer, dispatcher or similar position requiring knowledge of emergency medical or public safety operations, experience dealing with the public in a service related capacity. Prior experience in law enforcement, Fire and/or EMS related activities. Former military service personnel are encouraged to apply.
